Figure Editing
Figure Editing is an optional step before Layout Editing for Journals who require figure-level editing. Turning this feature on in the Application Features integrates the step into the existing Layout Production process whether a Publisher has opted into JAMS Production Services or not.
Important: Figure Editing Services are priced on a case-by-case basis and clients will be given a quote individually. For more information, please reach out to support@jams.pub.
To enable Figure Editing, head to Application Features:

And turn on these features, remembering to click save at the end of the page.

Where does Figure Editing occur?
Figure Editing happens within the Layout Editing process, whether the Publisher has opted into JAMS Layout Production Services or not.
After a Paper is accepted and (if applicable) an invoice is created, the Handling Editor moves the manuscript to the Layout Production stage and can be found here:

The Handling Editor can then decide if the manuscript needs Figure Editing or not:

The Handling Editor can then leave comments for either the Layout Team or the Figure Editing Team and the comment will go to the respective team.

With JAMS Layout Production Staff: Then, the Handling Editor should send the article to the Layout Team as usual and wait for the JAMS Production Staff to complete the Figure Editing and then the article layout.
Without JAMS Layout Services: See this article on the Layout Stage of Manuscript production using your own production staff.
Your Production Staff can see whether a manuscript has been requested for Figure Editing or not.
Each manuscript in Layout carries a service-type code showing what work it needs:
| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
| FL | Figure editing and layout |
| F | Figure editing only |
| L | Layout only |
